Jack Gillrup, ADA Consultant | John A. "Jack" Gillrup, previously served as the Chief of the Disabled Services Division and the ADA Standards Coordinator for the City of Jacksonville. In this position, he strove to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities who live in Jacksonville, as well as making all city services as accessible as possible. Prior to this, he was in charge of Public Information and Public Relations with the Social Security Administration in northeast Florida. Born in the "real" Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, he grew up in Jacksonville. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Business Administration from Florida State University. For many years, Jack was the Florida Field Editor for the Disabled Outdoors™ magazine, a national publication geared toward men and women who continue to enjoy outdoor activities in spite of their disabilities. He was cofounder of the Florida Handicapped Sportsmen, Inc., and has served as a board member of Easter Seals of Florida and WJCT/Stereo 90™. |
| | Jack Gillrup is a key supporter of the Radio Reading Service for more than 1,000+ reading impaired individuals in Northeast Florida and is a volunteer with the City's Public Parking Division as an auxiliary Disabled Parking enforcement specialist. He has served on the advisory board of Bethesda Park for the Disabled and was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to serve 2 terms on the Commission For Employment of the Blind and Other Severely Handicapped. Two of Jack's proudest accomplishments during his service with the City of Jacksonville are the creation of the annual Jim Brady Scholarship program for students with disabilities and the authorship of Ordinance 2002-869, which requires all landlords make their rental business property more accessible. His hobbies include writing, fishing, hunting, target shooting, and traveling. Jack recently combined several of his hobbies by going on a 2-week wheelchair safari to the Republic of South Africa.
